Buck is Back!

After six months of being off the App Store, we’re releasing a brand new version of Riverman’s first game Cash Cow, now self-published! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/ccaniv.

The new version has retina graphics, runs on every modern iOS device, has all new backgrounds, and is still the best darn coin counting game on the app store.

Here’s a little history of the game, which spans the entire history of Riverman:

Flashback to 11 1/2 years ago. Bush Jr. was in his second term as president. Facebook was only open to college students. And Riverman Media began discussing the technical issues for our first game ever, Cash Cow on PC, at a Dunkin Donuts. I had just started college and was doing homework by day, while programming Cash Cow by night. Seven months later, we were lucky enough to launch it on BigFishGames, to a games editor who happened to grow up on a farm and loved the theme. She positioned Cash Cow favorably and so it reached an audience.

Fast foward 3 1/2 years. Obama is half way through his first term. Now anyone can get on Facebook. The iPhone is still very new, and only just getting popular outside the tech community. Having made two games since (on PC and WiiWare), Riverman Media decides to try its hand at iPhone development, which had only recently opened up its store to non-Apple apps. It’s offering a great rate to developers, and nice tools to help make software. With help from publisher Chillingo, Cash Cow reached an even broader audience than before, from kids learning to count coins in elementary school, to middle-aged adults who got addicted to the frantic pace and depth of Endless Mode.

Fast forward 7 1/2 years. Riverman Media has made a ton of iPhone and iPad games of all different genres, including The Executive, Pizza Vs. Skeletons, and MUL.MASH. Cash Cow is still on the App Store, still being enjoyed by a diverse group. Unfortunately, the publisher decides to pull it from the store because it hasn’t been updated in a long time, and it doesn’t support new devices (partly due to the huge amount of time it takes us to update the game when someone else is the publisher). Riverman Media decides to take back the intellectual property, upgrade the game with beautiful high definition graphics, new backgrounds for bigger screens, full support for modern iPhones and iPads of every size, smoother animation, and online leaderboards and achievements.

Fast foward to today: Cash Cow: Anniversary Edition is here http://bit.ly/ccaniv! It’s in commemoration of the 10th anniversary, to be precise. Give it a try! Give it a review! Play a blast from the past! I can say with some certainty that it’s the best coin-counting game out there. It’ll always have a special place in our hearts, and whether it’s your first time trying it or you’ve been playing for 10 years, we hope you’ll come to appreciate it too. Happy counting!
